At Natursenter Birkeland, you stay in the middle of the overwhelming nature of the Norwegian fjord region, with the comfort of a cosy and spacious flat. Enjoy everything the area has to offer all day long, or relax in your own flat equipped with a spacious living room, an extensive kitchen and a covered veranda with spectacular views of the fjord. The flats are suitable for disabled guests. The property is right by the sea, where you may be lucky enough to spot sea eagles, dolphins, seals, porpoises or orcas. In the clear waters of the harbour, you will find starfish, anemones and crabs.

Fish experience and boat hire

For a special experience of this area, you can rent a motorboat from us to explore the fjord from the water. You can catch your own fish both from the boat and from the pier, which you can prepare on 1 of the BBQ spots.

Do you like fishing but have little experience in fishing and/or speedboating? Then you can take advantage of our fish experience. You will go out on the water with a guide who will help you fish and show you the most beautiful spots in the area. The experience will be tailored to your wishes.

Cost for the fish experience is NOK 500 per person for a two-hour trip. If you want a longer trip it will cost an additional NOK 500 per hour, regardless of the number of people. The experience includes rental of the boat, rods and life jackets. The price does not include petrol. This will be charged afterwards according to consumption.

The front of the property is dominated by a majestic mountain, the Heste. From the flats, many walks can be made through the mountains, which offer beautiful views of the fjord. A kilometre away there are bunkers from World War II. You can also go on a hike with a real nature photographer. The area offers many trips by car, such as a visit to the picturesque Art Nouveau town of Ålesund, the famous Geiranger fjord or the spectacular Trollstigen; the staircase of the trolls. Autumn in Norway

In autumn, the deciduous trees turn golden, orange and red. The uplands take on a reddish-brown glow. A layer of frost can suddenly turn the world white. In the higher mountains, there is a chance of snow. A stunning landscape to drive through. Norway in autumn is definitely worth a visit. Every year is different, but the period from mid-September to mid-October gives the greatest chance of this splash of colour.

Winter Wonderland

Norway in winter can be beautiful. Soft pink skies, thick layers of snow and the chance of the Northern Lights. Nearby are opportunities for cross-country skiing and skiing. If you want a winter experience, with snow, sledding, white mountains, frozen waterfalls or a once-in-a-lifetime skiing with a hot chocolate with whipped cream to finish, you've come to the right place. You can also make a fire under the clear starry sky.
The real winter sportsman is out of place here as the distances to the ski resorts are a bit longer (40-90 minutes).

Especially during the period from November to December, there is a chance of hefty storms. Very impressive to experience, but perhaps not what you are looking for. Should the weather forecast be very bad for the period you have booked, it is possible, by mutual agreement, to reschedule your holiday. So that you get the winter experience you want.

Holidays for seniors and disabled people

Fiskesenter Birkeland is suitable for senior citizens and people with disabilities. The flats are equipped to accommodate people in wheelchairs. Shower, toilet and beds are adapted so that you can enjoy a nice holiday in our flats even if you have difficulty walking. Wheelchair-accessible boats are available for rent, so fishing and boating are also possible.
Besides fishing and boating, there is much to do in the area. There are many wonderful trips to make by car. The BBQ place just down the road is also accessible by wheelchair.
